Math Club

About the Math Club

The PTA is excited to offer Math Club again in 2024 spring (free of charge!!). The Math Club (4th-6th Grades only) will be held every Thu from Jan 11 to Apr 18 (except holidays), 2:30-3:25pm (12:30-1:25pm on minimum day) at Pacific Sky School Innovation Center.

The purpose of the Math Club is not to provide Math tutoring but to help participating students practice and prepare to compete in the Spring Noetic Learning Math Contest (NLMC) in April (Apr 18). During the Math Club practice sessions, the volunteer coaches will provide past NLMC contest questions for the participating students to practice. We will allow some time for students to work on a subset of the questions as a group first, then we will share the solutions and guidance about how to solve them. We will also do "mock contests" in certain practice sessions, in which we will follow the contest rules strictly for students to get familiar with the real contest format.

More info about NLMC

NLMC is a problem-solving contest for elementary and middle school students. We believe that problem-solving helps students to become better mathematicians, better thinkers, therefore better equipped for advanced STEM learning. The goal of our contest is to develop students' problem-solving skills, to encourage their interest in math, and to inspire them to excel in math. During the contest, students have 45 minutes to solve 20 creative problems independently without a calculator.
